"CADIZFORNIA"

Cadiz (Andalusia, Spain) smells of sea and carnival. Of the almadraba tuna fishing tradition, of fine sand beaches and wide shorelines, but it also smells of surf.

Zahara de los Atunes, a small fishing village in the Andalusian province, has been for many years a preferred holiday destination for my wife and I. For three summers I shot what happened when the sun set over a little surfing school, ‘Zahara Red Tuna’.

The daily routine of hanging the neoprene swimsuits and storing the surfboards, the coming and going of students and enthusiasts renting boards, miles and miles of white sand beaches, the colours of dusk bathing in the Atlantic Ocean, the deep red sky as the sun hides on the horizon… it all transport us from Zahara de los Atunes to the beaches of California.

All of a sudden, Cadiz becomes a small ‘Cadizfornia’, my own small Cadizfornia.
